I was born in North Miami, Florida, to a single Haitian mother who could not afford to raise me nor my brothers on her own. I grew up seeing my mother working double shifts to make ends meet. Consequently, I took on the role of raising my brothers while my mother focused on working and earning a college degree. Thus, I learned through my mother's experience, early on, the value in hard work and the meaning of fighting to push my family forward.
When I was 19 years old, I joined the Marines, and soon after, I deployed to Iraq. I came back a changed man after six years of service, and a tour, in Iraq. After I had witness injustice, real poverty, and lack of fundamental human rights, I came back with the idea that I needed to do more for the people around me.
So, I decided to go to college and earn a Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy. I studied government operation, team building, creating laws, and policies geared toward helping working and low-income families.
Like most Americans who attend college, my education generated thousands of dollars in student loans. To help alleviate my financial burden, I began working for a telecommunications corporation. While there, I quickly excelled, becoming nationally ranked. While I had achieved a degree of financial independence, my true calling was not in corporate America, but in dedicating myself to a field where I could help others succeed.
Ultimately, in the pursuit of this dream, I went to law school, not because I wanted to be a lawyer, but because I wanted to understand the laws and how they affected people. I spent my life learning how government works and how to get things done for the benefit of the people.
I am running because I am ready to give back to you and the community. I will fight for policies that benefit the working class, not just those who need it least.
All I ask is for your vote.
- Democrat Jesse Philippe for US Congress
Jesse Philippe, Democrat Candidate, US House of Representatives (FL-15)
We have a growing problem with our school systems in America: (1) our public school teachers receive noncompetitive salaries; (2) public education funding has been shifting towards a grant-based education for the few who attend private schools.
I support community based schools and teacher pay increases and loan forgiveness.
Immigrants are being attacked every day in this country. We have to address this growing crisis in America! Unlike other congressional candidates, I believe in a pathway to citizenship contingent on an immigrant receiving a High school Diploma or work based pathway to citizenship ( for undocumented workers). I support DACA and the Dream Act programs. We are a country of Immigrants!
Our warfighters have fought for generations to keep us safe. Therefore, we need to fight for them! In Congress, I will propose amending our GI bills to include full education tuition relief, healthcare, and transition programs for them.
District 15 has a growing community. We need to build more roads here in Florida, and invest in mass transit for our growing population.
Incarceration has contributed to a wealth divide here in America. We need to focus on Mental health and decriminalize certain offenses.
Gentrification is real! We need to make affordable housing available for families in America.
If we do not support education today, we will fall behind as a nation. I plan to support teachers' pay increase, investment in secondary education, and student loan forgiveness programs.
Wall Street is winning, but the middle class is losing. We need a democracy based on people and not computers. Congress must include working people!
We need to fix social security so that the average American can live off of it!
The LGBTQ+ Community needs to be a protected class. I will pass legislation to ensure that happens in District 15, and push for it to happen across the nation.
Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals should be an option for the community. They will supplement the current medical system, and create an affordable healthcare option for families.
